In March 2020 my grocery store no longer allowed reusable bags because of a state-ordered ban due to Covid-19. During the 18 weeks the ban was in effect, I collected about 55 brown paper bags from my bi-weekly grocery shopping. The Covid Codices: Volumes I-IV are constructed from these bags.
These volumes are modeled on the Proverbia MS 987 Codex (Proverbs of Solomon) held in the collection of the Berlin Staatsbibliotek, thought to be from the fourth century. The single original volume of MS 987 consists of papyrus and leather with a blind-tooled design.
